Aim Big, Miss Big

When I was learning aerial refueling, a phrase I heard a lot was “aim small, miss small”, meaning if you aim to inches, you’ll miss by inches or less. It’s a really important concept when you’re flying 6 feet from another airplane. When I was talking over our big real estate goal, I thought of this. It didn’t fit as is for what we were looking at, but the inverse did - Aim Big, Miss Big.

Giving Up On the Cloud

Right now I self host a handful of servers from an old server at my house. There are a lot of reasons I really like self-hosting: more privacy, nobody can shut my servers down (even if they shut off my internet I still have them at home), I get really good speed and uninterrupted connectivity at home even with the terrible internet found in rural US communities. But I’m moving soon.

I'll Do It When I'm Rich

How many times have you heard this phrase? How many times have you said it? How many times was it true? I was thinking about this the other day while talking to my wife about this thing we want to do when we start making money from our real estate. See, we don’t need the income right now. The Air Force pays me plenty well (especially when we get rid of debt).

Dreaming Big

So recently I was talking to some family members about investing in real estate. I finally am in a place where I can do that, and I’ve been itching for a decade. (I know, I know, but it really was never a good time for a plethora of reasons). So we were talking about options and what we wanted to do, and we decided we wanted to work together on it.

1% at a time

I heard a talk a couple or weeks ago at my church’s semiannual conference that I really liked. It was called One Percent Better, and the name really says it all. The speaker, Michael A. Dunn, talked about how extremely manageable 1% changes can add up to be a huge benefit over time. My wife and I have been trying this principle out over the last few weeks. I wanted to start with something simple, so I started with something that How Christlike identified as a weak point: praying twice a day.

Where do I draw the line?

This last week my wife started having some problems that we quickly identified as a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). She gets more UTIs than every other women we know put together. Tuesday night she started feeling some urgency, but ignored it because she was sewing and didn’t want to stop. Wednesday morning when I got up at 6 am to go to work, she woke up and sat on the toilet where she remained pretty much the rest of the day.

About

I was born at a young age and never really got much older. At church I lead the music for the children and I think the reason I am so successful is that I’m really still a kid myself. (Never mind I am in my 30s) I try to maintain my childlike enthusiasm and curiosity, though I’m sure my wife thinks I just have no ability to focus. I am married and have 1 daughter and one on the way.
